PORT ARTHUR — On May 24th 2022, a gunman entered Robb Elementary School in Uvalde and took the lives of 21 students and staff. Layna Phillipps has been teaching at Adams Elementary School in Port Arthur for eight years and remembers her reaction.

“Families just being torn apart,” said Phillipps. “Like these kids, these precious kids, that’s just having to cling to life because this person decided to come in there and just do all of this to this school, it’s heart breaking and I just I don’t like seeing It.”

In response to the shooting, Texas lawmakers passed a bill requiring that all Texas schools have an armed guard by September First.

“That brings on a lot of challenges because there are not many officers out there,” said Dr. Mark Porterie, Port Arthur ISD Superintendent. “Especially when you’re talking about 1200 districts in the state of Texas.”

Many districts in Texas, including PortArthur ISD, are struggling to find guards. by that date. That’s why PAISD plans to ask the school board to pass a resolution for a ‘good cause exception’ to the deadline and use alternative security measures.

“Which may mean creating a Marshal, or an employee, or maybe a contracted individual that has had all of the courses in order to carry a handgun within a school district,” said Porterie.

State Representative Christian Manuel says he voted against the bill, saying It needed more time, more funding, and that he’s against arming teachers.

Embattled Texas GOP AG created ‘fake’ Uber account to secretly meet mistress: report

Texas Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton used an alias to summon rideshares to meet with his mistress, Tony Plohetski, Ryan Autullo, and Hogan Gore reported in the Austin American-Statesman on Wednesday.

Paxton was impeached and suspended until September 5th by Lone Star lawmakers on May 27th following accusations of “abuse of office to benefit donor Nate Paul, himself and Paxton’s alleged mistress. That led to an ongoing FBI probe and multimillion-dollar whistleblower lawsuit, with some of those Paxton staffers claiming they were fired for speaking out,” ABC News’ Olivia Osteen noted in June.

Paxton has also been under federal criminal indictment since July 2015 for securities fraud. Now, the Austin American-Statesman explains, Paxton and Paul “set up an Uber account under a fake name that Paxton used to see his mistress, revealing the extent of the men’s relationship as the FBI targeted Paul for possible mortgage fraud, a new filing in Paxton’s upcoming impeachment trial contends.”

GOP Rep. Ronny Jackson cursed out police as they body slammed him into the ground while the former emergency room doctor tried to assist a girl who was seizing at a Texas rodeo, newly released footage revealed.

Jackson, who cared for Presidents Barack Obama and Donald Trump in the White House, had stepped in to assist the teenage girl  who was going through a medical episode.

The state trooper, identified as Officer Young, told Jackson multiple people had asked him to step aside while EMS took over. Jackson continued to shout at Young and was restrained by two other people as he stepped toward the trooper.

Jackson then threatened to call Gov. Greg Abbott about the incident.
